We know Brooklyn Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio is in bed with Dem Boss and State Assemblyman Vito Lopez over the Broadway Triangle, and they indeed have had a deep working relationship for many years. But now the Bishop is phone-spamming 34th District voters with a message praising Lopez for his legislative support of Catholic issues — right before the election which pits RBSCC employee Maritza Davila against incumbent Democrat Councilwoman Diana Reyna.

Why does Assemblyman Lopez support Catholics over his other constituents? Is that even legal? It may also be a violation of IRS regulations for the Church to conduct such political activities. In any case, the Catholic vote is up for grabs.

For the record, Ms. Reyna was herself a Catholic activist in the Jornada movement who makes it her business to comment on Church issues in her official capacity.
