One of Bushwick’s libraries will close temporarily this November while renovations to its roof are completed.

The DeKalb Branch at 790 Bushwick Avenue, a Carnegie building constructed in 1905 in the Neoclassical style, will be closed for over four weeks during its $500,000 roof repairs, beginning November 13. The is the first time since 2001’s interior renovations that the DeKalb Branch has had major repairs.

“Since we have the budget, we determined that it would be best to address the roof repairs now rather than possibly sustain damage to this beautiful building,” Brooklyn Public Library Marketing and Communications Manager Stefanie Arck said.

The library isn’t scheduled to reopen until December 14, but local bookworms will have other options to feed their literary habits. In addition to several nearby BPL branches, residents can use the bookmobile service parked outside DeKalb library twice a week. Readers can request books and the service will bring them for pickup Wednesdays from 1pm to 4pm, and Fridays from 11am to 4pm. The BPL’s full catalog, including eBooks, can also be accessed online with a library card.
