A Conversation with Diana Reyna
In light of Arts in Bushwick’s Laura Braslow’s analysis of the recent Democratic primaries, in which she posits that Diana Reyna may owe her narrow victory to the “arts-identified” community — or in Dem Boss Vito Lopez’s language, “yuppie newcomers” — it seems appropriate that Reyna will be holding an informal “Conversation on Arts and Government” tomorrow night at Tandem bar. The event is organized by local political reform group New Kings Democrats.
Braslow beseeches, “The better turnout we have, the more credibility our community will have as a political force in the neighborhood.”
If you’re interested in chatting with the councilwoman, come to Tandem, 236 Troutman Wednesday night from 7-9pm. The house has been kind enough to offer drink specials for the event.

Did i get it right?
After 8 years of being our Councilwoman Diana Reyna is willing to drink with us?
I realy admire her stupidity!
it is great to see diana making an effort to understand the priorities of our community. we need her as an advocate – from funding local arts groups to legalizing much of the housing stock – the councilwoman can make a huge difference in our neighborhoods.
frankly, i think it says a lot that she wants to spend an evening with us just a few days before a tough election against the brooklyn democratic machine.
It says a lot all right — that Laura was right and she needs our votes. The suck part of all this is that we just “need” her to remove the obstacles that she has placed before us previously. We’re giving her our votes in the hopes that she will listen to us afterward. Just like I guess the Nobel committee thought the president might one day pursue peace.
This is a great opportunity to speak directly with Diana. If you’re in the neighborhood, please stop by.
I wrote to Ms. Reyna on two different occasions, two different issues. I received no response either time. When I’ve bothered to write other elected representatives I have always received a response (granted, sometimes it’s just a canned response, but a response nonetheless).
She couldn’t be bothered with me so now I can’t be bothered with her.
There is an opportunity here to actually develop a relationship with reyna. Why would we throw it away and complain later on on how no one helps us. Any avenue to improve our situation should be taken advantage of. I’ll be there.
Based on her record we can expect lots of promises tonight. Reyna wasn’t here for us in the past 8 years and she should not be trusted anymore. Enough is enough.
Maritza Davila has my vote.
Right, like Maritza cares either.
Anyone who is hard working and is not a lazy bum like Reyna will be better fr us.
Someone should ask her if she buys art by local artists.
Damn, talk about selfishness. Would you like her to give you a bottle and burp you too? Need to learn how to go potty? Grow up people!
You don’t seem to have a point. How is wanting one scrap of heed from our alleged representatives selfish when the rest of Bushwick practically lives 100% off political largesse?
It seems Diana Reyna would love to evict the people at 70 Wyckoff Ave. I guess the artists who live there are expendable.

So I’m voting for Maritza Davila on the Working Families Party.
