This week we’re focusing on that most Bushwick of Avenues, Knickerbocker. Stretching from the industrial badlands of Morgantown, then becoming a bustling commercial thoroughfare between the park and Myrtle before transitioning to a more residential flavor and tapering off into obscurity near the cemetery, Knickerbocker embodies the soul of the neighborhood.

$1200 — 2br: I hate shiny white tile, there is nothing less attractive in interior design, but with a few rugs plus your good taste, you could deal with it for this price to directly overlook María Hernández Park. Downstairs is all of Knickerbocker’s delights, and you’re close to everything else great in prime Bushwick as well.

$1250 — 2br: Ugh, more tile floors, but to each his own; this place is cheap even for being a bit away from the action and is on a relatively well-kept block convenient to shopping and transportation — and I love the old fireplace. It’s a basic place and looks clean.

$1350 — 1br: A bit pricey, this one-bedroom, but it’s in a very convenient shopping location and close to cool bars and such, on a low-traffic street, a few feet from the park, and is bright, large, attractive, and clean. Some original tin ceilings, wood floors, and moldings remain.

$1450 — 2br: Rather shiny floors here and won’t win an award in the charm department, but overall the place is decent, clean, in a pretty good location. What in my opinion makes it worth more than the apartment above (on Himrod) is it has a giant back yard — which is great because it accepts more than just small pets.

Dishonorable mention: This price is nuts. It is a decent apartment, sure, but it is not anywhere near “gyainormous” and with no bedroom and its sort of middle-of-nowhere location — sorry bud, NOT an “artistic area” — this is idiotic. Place is worth $800. I’d advise you to talk the landlord down but anyone who makes as many careless and stupid spelling errors and typos as are in this one ad probably doesn’t care much about how a building is run.
