Today, we begin a new series of posts that will highlight the best local photography on the last day of each month. All photos will be chosen from the BushwickBK Photo Pool on Flickr so if you have great shots of “Greater Bushwick,” share them here and you might see your work on BushwickBK.com in the near future!
To kick off the Bushwick Photo of the Month series, we have chosen Barry Yanowitz’s gloomy shot of a small garage on Flushing and Scott Avenue. The wide angle photo makes excellent use of cloudy weather to enhance grimy textures in the concrete sidewalks, together creating a stunning image of the cold industrial landscape.

This is total stock photography. Wide angle lenses are cheesy, particularly when used in this fashion. Puh-lease.

I totally agree with Gregg. Cheese central dude. It’s like a fucking Transworld skater video – I expect some kid to come do a kick flip.

I personally like it.
“Wide angle lenses are cheesy” = inane critique.
Gregg October 1st, 2009 at 9:58 am
This whole article is inane who cares if my critique matches? Saying “I personally like it” is somehow more insightful? Give me a break.

You’re right. No one cares, Greggg.

Thumbs up from this commenter. I’m not a photographer, so can’t critique this with any proper eye for what to look for, but it’s a sweet photo and the fish-eye style really emphasizes the intense angles on that building. So what if it could be in a skate video (which I agree, it could be)? Skateboarding is an art-form as well, and one that happens to be thriving here in Bushwick. Anyway, I like the photo of the month idea for those of us too lazy to comb through the whole flickr pool.

Wow, it’s still impossible to tell what will set people off. Anyway, Gregg, we can’t all be so talented as to have the idea to set a 2-second timer on a camera and fling it out the window at the middle school across the street. Oooh, aaart.
