In the spirit of Labor Day, I thought this week I’d give a nod to the prevailing style of the real hardworking people of Bushwick: the ubiquitous, enduring jeans & t-shirt. When scouting subjects I usually overlook the subtle variations and intriguing choices among these most obvious of outfits. But whether tight or loose; midriff-baring or to-one’s-knees; high-waisted or muffin-top-inducing; dark, light or acid-wash; this is an outfit almost everyone feels comfortable in. The common denominator of the neighborhood.

Jason Guerrero, 34, Computer Animator

On an early morning jaunt for coffee, I ran into Jason outside of Brooklyn’s Natural on Siegel and Bogart, who hadn’t slept for two days. I thought his super-casual, understated Brooklyn-centric outfit might make a good feature; he had on the now-iconic Brooklyn Industries tee that features a map of the borough’s many neighborhoods, proudly representing the place he calls home. It’s not so much that his ensemble was particularly fashion-forward (or backward), but that he looked comfortable (a necessity during marathon creative work sessions) and approachable, while simultaneously supporting a local business.

Great shirt.
My roommate Erin bought it for me. Actually, I lost the shirt she bought me and had to buy it again.

What are you doing up so early?
I have a lot of work to do. Im working on a short film. It’s not work-work, I just have a producer that I have to get stuff to.

How would you describe your personal style?
I have no idea. I literally haven’t changed in two days.

Favorite item of clothing?
I love this t-shirt. That’s why I bought it again. In fact, after I lost the first one, I bought TWO new ones. The only problem is when people point at Bushwick on the map, they poke my nipple.
