It’s only been a few weeks since a woman was killed at the Bushwick Houses at 140 Moore Street, defending her nephew in a crossfire. Sadly, today there’s similar news: a 21-year-old man died at Woodhull Hospital, 40 minutes after the police found him shot in the same public housing complex.

How surprising. No comments after 6 days. How come? I guess no one cares when it isn’t a Diego that’s falls victim of violence. So much for being one with community, eh?

Simple: 1) no details, 2) not a first-person story, 3) very likely gang-related. But feel free to blow it out of all proportion to suit your purposes, drama queen. I got your number.

What makes you assume it’s “very likely” gang related? Because it was a kid shot in the projects? Couldn’t possibly have been a robbery or a case of mistaken identity eh? Maybe if you were in touch with the community as you all tout yourselves to be, you would know the details. You don’t have anyones number you racist!

Statistics show that most murders, anywhere, are gang-related, which is why when moving to a neighborhood one should discount the murder rate, as it generally only applies if you plan to join a gang. One doesn’t have to make much of a stretch in assuming a murder in the projects is one of these.
Anyhow, I’m clearly not a member of that community and don’t pretend to be, and neither do most of the people I know here. As you may have seen in other comments, “natives” post here and neither do they seem to be moved by this incident. Are they racist, too?
Again, it’s very simple, as I stated above: there’s little info and this isn’t a shocking first-person account.

So using your logic PA, you’re just as safe moving to a neighborhood that has 130 homicides per year as you do with 1 per year if you don’t plan on joining a gang.
Post the link to that statistic PA….I’m just curious where you get this information from because of all the homicides I’ve been on, only 1 was gang related.
Seems like your logic has a lot of holes and snags in it.

Back to your bunker, little drama drumming boy.

I’m sorry Matt, I guess debating using fact isn’t your cup of tea. Go stick your head back up your arse where it belongs.
forgive him but he must be punished September 19th, 2009 at 11:41 am
dear god I pray everyday that they catch the man that shot and killed this man. when you do the crime you must do the time. no one deserve to get shot and killed. the person that did this is a murderer.he should be given the maxium charge 25year to life

No, that’s not what I am saying and it’s not something that can be extrapolated like that — a neighborhood with 130 murders a year is likely to be uninhabitable for many other reasons besides the probability of random death. But if we’re talking about 8-10 murders a year in a precinct of 150,000 people rather well-known for gang activity, most or all of those are gang- or drug-related. For example, exactly zero of us newcomers have been killed in Bushwick. That’s none, ever, unless some media outlet missed it and forewent sensationalizing something so unlikely (which itself is unlikely).
This is my impression from every single place I have lived in my life, based on murder stats I have seen over the years. The murder rate in this country in general, when you subtract gang and drug murders, is low. And the random murder rate is almost nothing. These are facts you can find simply by glancing at Wikipedia or other sources on the US crime rate.
