What a cool (dare I say "fall-like") morning! Between the temperature and the smell of cinnamon the girl next to me added to her cappuccino at the coffee shop this morning, it’s beginning to feel like a season change. There must be a few more days of sweltering heat to come (besides in my apt and office) ….right?
Friday marks the beginning of the weekend-long Bushwick Film Festival at Lumenhouse. Check the schedule and take in some sure-to-be interesting films in that gorgeous space on Beaver Street.
A bunch o’ bands are lined up at Goodbye Blue Monday for something which I’ve seen referred to as "Wick Fest" as well as "GypsyWest Summertime Festival." Whatever you call it, it’s at 8 and goes late with bands in the backyard and inside stage. Also at GBM: Saturday night, Animal Tropical is in town from Miami.
Silent Barn has bands scheduled literally every day this week. (Including Twin Stumps on Weds, which is awesome.) Don’t ever say they aren’t working for you over on Wyckoff.
Saturday, is performancy-arty/dancy. Jill Sigman and co. will be hitting the streets of Morgantown with a "test drive" of "Our Lady of Detritus: a portable performance installation that will travel to parks and outdoor spaces in multiple NYC boroughs this Fall."
Saturday from 6-9 and Sunday from 3-6, "Marni Kotak, along with a cast of clergy, soldiers and family members, will re-create the experience of attending her grandfather’s funeral." at English Kills Gallery at an installation performance entitled “My Grandfather’s Funeral,” and curated by Phoenix Lights.
If music and dancin’ are what you’re after, you’ve got good options. Market Hotel presents: "A Concert in Loving Observance of Michael Jackson’s 51st Birthday," featuring Future Islands, among others, AND Starr Space has a whole live music and video installation situation going down.
Have a hipsterific adventure on a boat (oh come on, you know I had to link to that) in Bushwick at the Titanic Chill-Out (scroll down for website & password info).
In "not-in-Bushwick-but-you-might-be-interested" news, Bklyn Yard has got a whole bunch of Bushwickers & ‘Wick Faves going on all day including: Sharon Van Etten, Cinema 16, Screaming Females.
Sunday, OMG LIGHTNING BOLT at Broadway Backyard (scroll down), with Teeth Mountain, Hot Box and Talk Normal.
Monday, Bags for the People present their monthly "Sweatshop Social" bag-sewing night at 3rd Ward, this time featuring Lady Magma, it looks like!
Wednesday, Really? A Queer Night in Bushwick is BACK after a lil summer hiatus in the Northeast Kingdom Den. There will be hotties for sure and drink specials, I’d say probably.
