Hi there, Bushwick! I’m phoning it in from the Heartland this week where the nights are silent, the corn is perfect, and the butter statues are worth the lines. Judging by the state of my inbox, it’s going to be a fantastic week in the hood — and I’ll be missing it all.
Tonight, it’s a special interactive installment of Handmade Music Night at 3rd Ward: "Whether you’re an absolute beginner trying out a new kit for the first time or an advanced programmer or hardware maker, it’s an open space in which you can spend several hours getting something accomplished."
The Lowbrow Society is at it again with: "MOVE!, a temporary public art event which will begin near the New Museum in the LES and continue onto the train. Once inside the subway car, there will be music, acrobatics, 2D & 3D art, and refreshments by the MTA Service Specialists!" Meet at the New Museum at 9pm. You did not hear it here.
Friday, catch four bands (including the Affected Affections) and cheap PBRs at Bushwick Music Studios.
There’s a Lil’ Wayne-inspired all-night listening party at Bushwick Starr: "BEST RAPPER ALIVE is an exhibition of artwork about or inspired by the music and persona of Lil’ Wayne."
Saturday, go see this: Bushwick y Ballet at Bushwick Starr, co-produced by Norte Maar. Amazing choreography by Julia K. Gleich featuring music by Pass Kontrol (among others) and performance by Andrew Hurst! I got to see a little preview last week and it was fantastic.
Party with the pros while supporting the Halsey stop’s upcoming Center for the Arts at Refuge‘s fundraising event featuring: "the musical stylings of Milo, DKDS, Small Change, Joee Irwin, Cobra Krames, Junglez, Action Alex + more TBA." This is the "first time you will ever see downstairs… architectural renderings of the completed Refuge Center for the Arts will be on display" as well as "Light art by Jason Eppink, creator of the Light Ripple, Pixelator and Print After Party. Candy Crack delivery by Club Animals, the big blue mascot who gives you free bouncy rides on the subway." All that.
There’s a pub quiz night at Two80 Cafe & Lounge on Knickerbocker — check the calendar for details.
Sunday, get your BBQ & Bluegrass on at 3rd Ward. They’ve been generous with the Sunday BBQ events this year — go take advantage before we’re all bitching about how cold it is!
Sunday night, go to the Kingdom for the Kings County Cinema Society’s film screening, the "first of what will be an ongoing programmed series of local and cult flicks." This week: Films on food: Gluttony and Gorging. May want to eat before the movies…
Along with all of this, there’s also a bunch of bands playing Silent Barn.
I hear it’s hot in BK. You can hack it. Grab a piragua and go participate. It’ll be fun!
