i think it's great that you're doing what you're doing. i was born in bushwick in 1951. was burned out by fire and drugs in 1970. i'm am so grateful that you, whoever you all are, are bringing bushwick back to life. most everyone who ever came to bushwick was from somewhere else. brooklyn takes root in your bloodstream.... it grows and grows. i know - it's still in mine almost 60 years later. power to the people, baby. keep it up.

thanks chillinoncentral – now I remember I went to PS 24 , 123, 145 etc, kept moving all over Bushwick area. The memories of PS 24 had to be around 1964 because I remember GI joe doll and Dave Clark 5 with the song Glad all over for that address- friends were Ian Streat who lived on Bushwick across the school and Fernando on Flushing and Bushwick by the gas station – I passed by this year and I cannot believe that my building was still there ( 3-4 building north of Flushing on Bushwick , I think it was 463 Bushwick Ave arplus@aol.com

Hector, I Google'd and found that, specifically, PS 24 was located at Arion Pl and Beaver St. (which is where they meet with Bushwick Ave). Along the way, I also found a 1947 copy of a newspaper that shares an old timer's interesting memory of the school nicknamed the "Hill School" - here is a link, go all the way to the bottom, an article titled <a href="http://fultonhistory.com/Newspaper%205/Brooklyn%20NY%20Daily%20Eagle/Brooklyn%20NY%20Daily%20Eagle%201947%20Grayscale/Brooklyn%20NY%20Daily%20Eagle%201947%20Grayscale%20-%200085.pdf" rel="nofollow">"This Hill School Was on Arion Place</a>"

Just have to say, "THANK YOU" to the authentic brooklynite (Dolores) who posted the comment above. As a native Brooklynite myself, I also find it ironic and almost annoying that these hipsters think they are from Brooklyn. Listen up, you're not from brooklyn.. Brooklyn has an AUTHENTIC, original, and REAL culture - we dont need the fabricated artsie fartsie, converse wearing, dadies money spending, tree hunging, wanabe artists that are pouring into our beloved neighborhoods like roaches in a midnight scurry.... You can try, but you will always be a transplant lacking true brooklyn roots. Kyle and Chase are not from Brooklyn, Vinny and Joe are.....Forgetaboutit!

I think your doing a great thing. I grew up in
Bushwick in the 80s and 90s. I saw some crazy things,
and it being tougher, I was the only white kid in the neighborhood. I had a great time on my block playing
with my puerto rican, dominican and black friends. Summer time we stayed up all hours of the night. I still return to the neighborhood and it brings me back
into time drinking a piragua on my stoop, playing skelly and chinese handball. I love Bushwick and I hope
to see it more beautiful.

Wow. That's exactly why I do what I do. You hardly make it welcoming, lady.

And capitalizing? I charge half of the going rate for tours. That's because I want to educate, not profit.

but thanks for your thoughtful comments.

I find it truly amazing that you are giving awalking tour of bushwick> I was born in bushwick (1955) and left when i married in 1978. My dad was born in Bushwick on beaver St my mom moved here from bergen beach after her dad died. I lived through the riots
people or should I say fucking anim, als running down cedar st with refrigeraters, televisions you name it, they robbed it. Broadway was great you had wonderful stores and beautifully ornate banks.Bushwick was a great place until the sixties everyone made the exodus to the burbs except my dad he wouldn't hear of it. we have the train down the block and the bus on the corner (whoopie) so I was the minority. we all got along though we had a very diverse block and no shootings or the the things that go on today.however i want to mention Knickerbocker ave the area was Italian and mostly Sicilian i am Italian
my dad's family also was from Sicily. Knickerbocker didn't get looted in 77 because there still was alot of italians and the store owners didn't live above their stores i don';t know where you got that from?
anyway just wanted to say I hat e all out of town people who pretend to be hip and think that it's hip to live in Bushwick is cool, four ones cab would say when i called pick up in war zone. My dateds said i lived within running distance to the train. the block was slowly burning down and those fucking Muslims woke me up every morning at 5am with the chant over a loud speaker.i tell people I come from Bushwick and they think i was poor i was but we had a great family and always had alot of company. It had taught me tolerance and love for all people I kind of miss the street scene in the summer it was always a party alot like the movie Do The Right Thing only my fam8ily weren't creeps. Ciao and good luck capitalizing on something thats not in your veins!
