This week is all about: bands, benefits, block parties, beer, BBQs, and bag-making — with a strong emphasis on bands…
Tonight, work it out at Starr Space Yoga (yoga stays local and weekday price is now $10!).
Later on, support the DIYs at Market Hotel‘s benefit show featuring Liturgy, etc.
Friday, Market Hotel weekend continues with TWO shows (scroll down) including sets from Oneida and Teengirl Fantasy to name a couple.
Even more bands (believe it) at Bushwick Music Studios. *Free* show including "the release of U SAY USA‘s debut EP, recorded Bushwick Music Studios and produced by Governours front man Bill Bartholomew."
Saturday, support local business and local artists at the Potion Cafe Fundraiser/ McKibbin Street Fair. McKibbin between Bushwick & White Street will be blocked off from traffic with (among a much longer list) silent auction, organic vegetarian BBQ, performance stage, skate ramp, movies and an after party.
Saturday night, bands at Bushwick Starr: Pass Kontrol, Lady Magma, Buffie Gilbert and The State Workers. Summer shows at the Starr are the most fun — come on out & bring your dancin’ shoes!
For even more dancing — head a block and a half further down Starr to the final Alley Oop Doo Wop dance party of the summer at Starr Space.
Sunday, it’s 3rd Ward’s second annual Pig Roast and Dance Party! Gourmet BBQ, free Colt 45 from 4-5, bands, mexi-slaw… who could ask for more, really?
Summer Streets continues on Knickerbocker, Brooklyn style, with another Sunday of Summer Scene! This week features: yoga workshops, fitness and healthy food demos, live music, and a Bushwick Bike Ride led by NYC bike advocates (leaves from the park at 1, call 646-253-5728 for info).
Monday, get yourself right back to 3rd Ward for Bags for the People‘s Sweatshop Social.
Wednesday, throw in your two cents at Food in Bushwick: a conversation. "A meeting of community leaders, churches, and organizations working on food issues in Bushwick…to exchange ideas and discuss how we can increase access to healthy and affordable food for all residents." Bushwick Public Library, 6PM.
Check out a video premiere from the So So Glos at Silent Barn.
It’s a big weekend, folks — let’s hope that sun icon scheduled for Saturday is for real and the "isolated thunderstorms" are true to form. Cheers!

Isn’t 3rd Ward run by Israelis? Odd they would have a pig roast… unless it’s some artistic statement.

The “I’m a suicidal pig” statement. Emphasis on pig.

Once again I missed the picks deadline (Sorry Anna!). Here’s the details on this Wednesday’s Moviehouse: CinemaParque screening in Sternberg Park.
When Clouds Clear
Corner of Boerum Street and Lorimer Street
Wednesday, July 29, 9pm
When Clouds Clear follows the radical struggle of the remote Ecuadorian town, Junín and the conflicts that have arisen due to international mining interests.
These once-peaceful farmers find themselves thrust into a dangerous world of corruption, splintered households, murder and arson as they fight to protect their land and families.
Filmmaker Danielle Bernstein will be on hand to answer your questions after the screening.
