Most people that live in Bushwick or regularly read this web site already know about it, but yesterday the New York Times published a detailed article about the seemingly endless stream of new retail that is flooding the neighborhood.
Reporter Alison Gregor focuses mainly on The Loom, Wyckoff Exchange and our growing selection of wine shops in the Times‘ latest snapshot of Bushwick’s up-and-coming-ness. When so many new projects are lumped together in one article, readers might walk away thinking the neighborhood is about to get a complete makeover. Luckily, a real estate agent in the article admits, “Bushwick is still maybe five-plus years from getting a Starbucks.”

Annoying article, yet largely true, but contains some inaccuracies. Like the idea that Bushwick is not already chocablock with retail. It’s bursting with stores and restaurants! But I guess stores catering to the local Spanish speaking population are somehow not visible to this reporter. Also, that wine store looks fancy but sells horrible swill. I think the labels they carry buy shelf space. It’s gross.

In terms of inaccuracies, the story seemed to indicate a massive wine shop was going in at 28 Wyckoff when in fact it will be a 6,500sf organic grocery store plus a 500sf wine shop. I’d sure like to have a big Organic Grocery store open nearly 24 hours in the area, plus Hana’s sandwiches are awesome…
Maybe they should have the title be “Organic Grocery comes to Bushwick” but I suppose then it wouldn’t be as dramatic.

aw mopar, Vinos is just Spanish and Argentinean-heavy, and they do carry a lot of stuff I like. If you prefer French wines, it might not be the place to go. Anyway, yes, Bushwick is packed with retail and restaurants but not of the kind the Times cares about.

Of course I buy the horrible swill 2 x a week anyway. If they carried better French swill I would buy more. I’m convinced it’s a horrible plot.

Haha, try to hang in there.
