After the weird spring, late arrival of summer and torrential rain, how awesome has the sunny weather been lately? Summer = love. Looks like a bit of a mixed bag weather-wise this weekend, but hopefully there will be some sun and regardless — there’s plenty to do around here rain or shine!
Tonight, there is some unfinished business to attend to. Pocket Utopia will be open for ONE last hurrah: "Business Edition," a one-night exhibition of artist-produced editions and prints, and a selection from the recently inaugurated Kris Graves Projects – Pocket Utopia Flatfile collection. Austin Thomas‘ dreamy little utopia on Flushing will be sadly missed — hopefully we’ll be seeing her around the neighborhood and we can keep up with her on her blog.
Friday, Molly Surno presents another edition of Cinema 16 at Starr Space.
Apparently, McKibbin is the place to be this weekend. Two big DIY type situations are on the horizon. 1) An "EPIC, two-night loft show at 255 McKibbin St., in room 507." Shows start at "nine-ish" and bands include 500 mA, Hank and the Cupcakes and GunFight! (see calendar for band lists). 2) The Lowbrow Society for the Arts presents: MASHUP! which will feature a menu of art, music, cheap drinks and "Puppetry Superhero armor fashion show," among other things.
Saturday, it’s your last chance to see the Bushwick Biennial at NURTUREart.
There’s another "Hank Schwarzkopf and Peanut Butter Baby" show at Two80 Cafe and Lounge. "Free beer 7-8 (yes!), show after that. Once again it will represent a cross section of neighborhood talent, comedy, music, circus, etc. in English/Spanish/and Spanglish."
There are bands that you might like playing at both Starr Space (Left Coast, Wild Yaks, etc) and Market Hotel (Abe Vigoda, Future Islands, etc). You can hear some of them on Bushwick Music.
The Bushwick Starr hosts a benefit for neo-vaudevillian outfit: The Fabulists, with all kinds of performance-y stuff like "cabaret acts and trapeze," of course, a DJ and presumably, a big dance party!
Sunday, RBSCC and Arts in Bushwick team up in cooperation with the city’s "Weekend Walks" program to bring art, yoga, and other cool stuff to a pedestrianized Knickerbocker Avenue between Starr and Suydam, on the south side of María Hernández Park. It will happen again for the following two Sundays.
Goodbye Blue Monday will be hopping all day/night: "Team Mojito brings you music and grilled delights."
Wednesday, Join DJs Paleboy & Teen Hugs at Really? A Gay Night in Bushwick (srsly, really) for their patented weekly blend of fun at Northeast Kindgom Den.
Let us know how it goes, team! Enjoy!
