So, it turns out that after all that drama about the fireworks on the west side, we could see them just fine in cozy Bushwick — and along with the local displays, it was a gorgeous night! One never knows. Hope everyone rested up after that 3-day weekend — there is a full roster of events to attend all week long.
Tonight, mosey over to Beaver Street for the last night of the first annual exhibition of Lumenhouse resident artists: Matthew Brownell, Megan Hays, Sara Hubbs, and Stephen Workman.
Silent Barn has shows tonight and throughout the weekend — be sure to check out the lineups.
Friday, is really arty. Morgantown will be hopping with openings at Factory Fresh (Lichen, featuring three artists from São Paulo) and Ad Hoc Art; as well as an "art happening" of sorts at ISCP’s Pecha Kucha (read all about it), just a little ways down the road.
You’ve all been very, very bad. Report to OTK (Over the Knee) Discipline! at Starr Space for "one classic night of artistic freedom, collaboration, experimentation, and debauchery… organized by Gio Black Peter & Brian Kenny with videos, live performance, and art by many local NYC artists and friends…" and a chance to "spank away your sins." What Friday night is complete without that?
Saturday, start off your day (slash recover from your night) with some brunch and jazz at our newest dining establishment, Phorum, 11am-3pm. Sounds lovely!
Lumenhouse is not wasting any time! Join them at the opening of J-POP, which "looks at a new Japanese aesthetic of playful invention from the material realities of everyday life." *While you’re there — check out their two available, gorgeous and affordable studio spaces and ask about summer photo studio specials.
Music fans: check out Parts & Labor at Market Hotel and Lady Magma at Shea Stadium. I’ll be gone and missing both, so please go & take pics!
Sunday, it’s time for another edition of beloved Moviehouse at 3rd Ward, and this one sounds pervy!
Monday, Jill Sigman/Think Dance present one of a series of workshops, entitled "Being There," about presence in performance. Check out the BBK Culture Calendar for more info and email thinkdance@attglobal.net to register.
Wednesday, Bring Your Shit premieres at Beauty Bar (more to come and look out for future drink specials). Kinda loved this email, so I’m just going to straight up quote it: "MOTHERCRUSHER brings together 6 local DJ’s covering a wiiiide spectrum of tunes. We have a few FADER magazine cats coming out to spin, guys heavy into soul/psych/funk, a Cuban Jew who knows his bugalu, and a local filmmaker who touches on everything from Queens of the Stone Age to Gravediggaz. Should be a good time. Chill event with NO electrohouse."
There you have it! Enjoy!
