The 4th of July snuck up on me… It’s suddenly summerish (about damn time), so get out there and celebrate independence day! My very informal research (methodology: I asked everyone I come into contact with yesterday and this morning) indicates that a lot of people are getting out of here for the long weekend. Those of us who are holding down the fort need to step it up.

Tonight, get started on the long weekend on Moore St. The Glass Door (formerly known as Retox for those of you keeping score) and JD Tattoo invite you to a BBQ situation with "Open Bar (5-7), Discount Tattoos, DJs and bands (Aquadora and HTR — more tba)." All ages, $5.

Friday, Todd P, Woodsist, and Captured Tracks bring you what is destined to be unbelievably fun — our very own fabulous local festival! The Woodsists/Captured Tracks Festival is on Friday and Saturday including (but not limited to) The Vivian Girls, Woods, and caUSE co-MOTION! Tickets available online.

Grace Exhibition Space presents a new performance by Holly Faurot & Sarah H. Paulson in collaboration with Daniel Bainbridge featuring music by Joel Mellin and members of Naam from 7-midnight. My favorite part of this invite: "audience may enter and exit at will." As it should be: no pressure, people!

Saturday, is THE day! Let’s all take a moment to lament this year’s west side fireworks location. wtf. Since the train is a less than desirable weekend option and the fireworks will be best viewed from the OTHER side of town, we may as well hunker down, see what’s up and enjoy the local displays.

Goodbye Blue Monday never lets ya down. Music and BBQ from 4PM on including Buffie Gilbert and The New York Howl, to name a couple.

Bushwick Music Studios celebrates its grand opening with five bands including Gunfight! and The Tryptics. Magic words: No cover, free BBQ, free beer. 9pm, folks.

If there’s still not enough music in your weekend, Market Hotel presents a midnight show.

Sunday, sleep in, enjoy a lovely coffee or brunch, chill out, and then get cultured before you head back to work. Starr Space presents "The Cruelty of Pirates," a collaborative performance by Fever Theater and artist Jenny Vogel, followed by the music of PERFVGIVM. An arty-sounding end to the long weekend!

Enjoy, team! As always: email events to bushwickarts@gmail.com, add stuff for this weekend in the comments section and let us know what was good!
