HBO’s Boardwalk Empire to Shoot in Bushwick

Signs were posted on doors of a Meserole commercial space for filming in the area this week.  According to the website, Boardwalk Empire will be a “major HBO production” that will be co-executive produced by Mark Wahlberg and Martin Scorcese, among others.

Based on the forthcoming book Boardwalk Empire: The Birth, High Times, and Corruption of Atlantic City, the pilot will be written by Terence Winter, veteran writer of The Sopranos, which is perhaps a sign HBO is trying to turn this project into something of a fill-in now that the show has been off air for two long years.

According to a recent article in Reuters, the pilot will feature several actors from HBO’s hit series The Wire, as well as Brooklyn native Steve Buscemi (whose current picture on Wikipedia looks frightening, by the way).  Buscemi will star as Nucky Johnson, who runs a liquor-distribution ring in the 1920s, with sidekick Jimmy Darmody played by Michael Pitt, who got his break when he turned in a great performance as that wanker rockstar Tommy Gnosis in Hedwig a few years back.

Filming has already been underway in other parts of Brooklyn and will hit the Bushwick area this Wednesday, June 24th, assuming the weather holds up.  The following is a list of places where parking will be held in advance for the shoot — keep an eye out so you don’t end up getting your car towed:

Bushwick Ave. between Scholes St. and Meserole St.
Meserole St. between Humboldt St. and Bogart St.
Scholes St. between Bushwick Ave. and Bogart St.
East side of Waterbury St. between Scholes St. and Meserole St.
West side of Waterbury St. between Ten Eyck St. and Stagg St.
Bushwick Pl. between Meserole St. and Johnson Ave.

According to the signs posted, tow trucks will arrive Tuesday, June 23rd at 10 p.m., and if it rains the filming will be pushed back to the next day, with parking affected accordingly.

If you happen to be walking around the Montrose stop on the L on Wednesday, keep your eyes peeled.  You may just see old Marty strutting around in his signature Drew Carey glasses, patrolling the scene of the shoot.

Note: this location listing is based on no-parking signs posted in the area as well as local blogs, and has not been confirmed with the production company.
