Rapper Nyle has a lot to celebrate this 4th of July, and if you drop by his Lake Johnson festival that will feature 15+ bands, BBQ, fireworks, and more, you can celebrate with him.

Having recently set the hip hop blogosphere ablaze with his Lil Wayne remake of "Let The Beat Build," a creative NYU student collaboration shot in just one take, Nyle will be dropping his third EP “Capstone” on June 27th.

Fans will be able to download it for free on his website, with extras-laden hard copies for sale later this summer.

If you haven’t seen the "Let The Beat Build" video yet, check it out:

A vet within NYC’s SinSin Circuit, (one of the city’s most respected collections of rappers), Nyle was inspired by Kanye West’s “Late Registration” during his freshman year at NYU.

"You could call him one of my influences," Nyle admitted to BushwickBK. "He’s always off skew, but in a way that’s accessible. When it comes to things he samples, like Daft Punk, you can tell he’s not afraid to change his sound and grow. [In his albums] you can see his progression."

Nyle’s resulting EPs named “Frosh” and “Smore” reflect both his own evolving mastery of studio production (he graduated from NYU’s Clive Davis Program with a BFA in Recorded Music) and a range of influences that include Flaming Lips, Jack Johnson and Citizen Cope.

Even though school’s out for Nyle, he will continue to leverage the relationships he made on campus. Students from Stern will be organizing his national tour (tentatively set to begin in September), and SpringShot, a progressive think tank comprised, in part, of fellow NYU alumni, will serve as his creative consultants and buzz builders.

Nyle has given himself one year to commit himself to music 100 percent, planning on supporting himself through shows, EP sales and occasional parties at Lake Johnson. If things don’t work out he has a back-up plan — going to grad school in Berkeley, CA.

"I kind of have a job waiting for me there working with kids," Nyle told NYULocal.
"It’s hip-hop education."

But in the meantime, Nyle’s going to let the buzz build.

"I’m gonna keep releasing really dope videos, really good music, and hopefully just be on the road by the time September hits."

With a dedicated base of fan, alumni and community support — coupled with major talent on the mic — there’s no doubt that Nyle won’t be one of Bushwick’s best kept secrets for long.

Nyle’s official album will drop later this summer and BushwickBK will have details on the tour, upcoming series of videos and more in the weeks to come.
