Putting Vicious/Delicious (56 Bogart), the show for the Brooklyn College MFA 2009 Thesis Exhibition, up during Brooklyn Open Studios ensured maximum foot-traffic for this class of graduates. The majority of the works were pop-influenced sculptures, and as the bittersweet title suggests, each projected a disarming cuteness and a darkness at once. Emily Bicht made an intimidatingly oversized jello mold cake, while Susanne Cranstron Graf used sweet- pastel-colored fibers to form up canvases and large-scale sculptures of grotesque bulbous textures.
Zane Wilson, also a sculptor, resin-cast cartoonish representations of large tree branches. Conscious or not, it seemed as the classmates were strongly influenced by one another, making for a consistent aesthetic overall.
