Wow. I don’t know about you, but I am still exhausted from BOS weekend… the word on the street and my anecdotal evidence suggests that the weekend was a success! Galleries and studios report an overwhelming turnout as compared to previous years and I personally felt a tremendous amount of energy and excitement around the place. Overheard at Norte Maar on Sunday: "It’s my first time in Bushwick, where should I go?" Check out BBK’s BOS coverage and let us know how YOUR weekend went down!
And now for this week! No rest for the wicked: The L Magazine‘s Northside Festival is taking over the Burg and even creeping out into our turf. Check out the full schedule & keep an eye out for some home team favorites (including Blues Control, Wild Yaks, Bonnie Baxter and Sharon Van Etten).
Tonight, kick off the festival with DJ Mayonnaise Hands and Albert Shelton at NURTUREart. (Don’t forget to check out the Bushwick Biennial while you’re there!). Buffie Gilbert & friends take over the Kingdom’s acoustic night — and they are sassy, so don’t be late.
Shea Stadium has full lineups tonight, Friday and Saturday: Check it.
Friday, ISCP is participating in the Northside Festival with "Hear Myself In It," an evening of live music and performances exploring the ways that visual artists incorporate music.
Over on Morgan, it’s the moment we’ve all (admit it) been waiting for…the opening of Sex Cells, 3rd Ward’s sexting show! In usual 3rd Ward fashion there will be free drinks, DJs, music, probably massive hip crowds and all-around fabulousness. End your night in the Northeast Kingdom Den at "Basement Boogie" funk & soul night.
Saturday, Market Hotel aims to please with MIKA MIKO, the Strange Boys, Coathangers, and Fiasco. The House of Yes hosts "Girls Rule!" a benefit party for the Lower East Side Girls Club. Go! And if you’re in a weird mood, do head to the First Avenue L station and get a free bouncy ride from weirdos.
Sunday, it’s time for Todd P‘s annual unamplified BBQ of dreams — this year at Fort Tilden Beach.
Tuesday, "Bomb The Music Industry!" …er, go hear music at Silent Barn: Pegasuses-XL and Deaf Judges.
One more friendly reminder to attend (holy shit — YES it IS this affordable) $6 yoga at Starr Space during the month of June. I mean it!
Go out, go crazy, go hard…but then make sure to rest up because next weekend it’s time for Make Music NY! Check back here for deets on what we’ve got cookin’ in the ‘Wick!
