This week we’re featuring apartments near the Jefferson L stop. All of Bushwick’s newest hotness is centered between the two entrances of this station, as well as it’s old standards. Restaurants, bars, markets, galleries, and our leafy María Hernández Park will be joined soon by even more cool stuff. If you can swing it, this is the place to be.
$1300 — 2br: If this is where I think it is, you have the 300-year-old Onderdonk House basically as your back yard. Yes, it’s the oldest thing for miles. And the apartment itself seems nice, if you can just see past the unbelievably hideous paint job. You’re on industrial fringe up here, but it’s mostly just warehouses and such — several lovely residential blocks are nearby and the area is quiet. And on a bike you’re all over the Wyckoff action in two minutes.

$1400 — 2br: We’ve listed this property before, but it’s worth repeating as they have another unit, and the price is great. It’s also pretty nicely renovated, though of course “luxury” is almost meaningless these days — it seems that to be luxurious all it has to be is not broken. Really good location — you’re close to the Wyckoff Avenue action but not too far a walk from Bogart and Morgan area’s other stuff, like the new café/bar The Alley.

$1250 — 1br: Same location as above, and the interiors seem quite nice, with original wood floors and exposed brick and such.
Irving and Melrose | street view
$1150 — 1br: Good price for a decent one-bedroom at an okay intersection — there’s a big ugly “family housing” building there courtesy, I believe, of the Catholic Church, but also there’s LA Burrito if you’re into that kind of thing.

And finally, for your entertainment, I will simply quote: “I don’t know about you, but today’s economic times remind me of the song by Cold Play (Viva La Vida). What with so many people losing their jobs and so on… This is a great first apartment located in Bushwick, or East Williamsburg as it is now being called.” Also please note this ad also seems to be an ad for Geico insurance. For some reason.

The landlord of the first apartment still owes me half of my security deposit from several months ago. I’m resigned to not getting it back…but be warned before handing over a month and a half’s rent upfront. Nice guy otherwise though.
