This week we’re highlighting the Gates J train vicinity. This area is sleepy in the night- and day-life arena but features good deals in properties that often have historic charm. The J line gets you to the Lower East Side in just under 20 minutes.

$1200 — 1br: Ton of cool old details in this one-bedroom, though for the price and area it should be quite large. Floors look new if ho-hum, and I’d brighten all that nasty dark ghetto-brown oil-paint trim, but the place seems to have lots of light. Go for it.

$1449 — 2br: Get $50 off this if you can… the block isn’t awful but it’s no $1450 apartment. The interiors are your standard decent renovation, okay new wood floors, french doors *yawn*. Probably not falling apart and that’s a good start in Bushwick, right?
