Tonight, we’re theoretically scheduled to get a break from the amazing amounts of rain we’ve been enjoying, so it’ll be a good night to go out on the town.
Get "felt up" (always love a little felting humor) at 3rd Ward‘s Craft on Draught night. I so wish I was crafty because that sounds so fun — not to mention right on trend! If you’re not up for an activity, go relax with Oliver and the ladies in the Northeast Kingdom Den‘s acoustic night. Tonight, enjoy the stylings of Buffie Gilbert, Tracy Shapiro, Oliver Ralli, and Teresa Amram.
Friday marks the beginning of ISCP‘s open studios weekend. Check out their site for info on the weekend’s schedule of art, music, performance and screenings. Eastern District presents new work by Claw Money sponsored by Belvedere vodka. The artist will be on hand for the event. Check out a show at an all ages venue that is (according to their MySpace page) "so fucking hip you don’t even know about it yet." The 36 Chambers (located at 36 Ditmars — across from the KFC) present Red & Blue, The Serious Geniuses, Hinges, and How Do We Jump High.
Saturday afternoon, get literary and caffeinated at the Bushwick Reading Series featuring readings by Bridget Bell, Kalliope Panagiotakos, Lauren Hilger and Cordelia Eddy and coffee from Boulevard Cafe. If you’re feeling like getting even smarter, head to NurtureART for a Nature Reading and discussion. "In conjunction with the exhibition Interface: Nature, curator Nina Horisaki-Christens and NURTUREart will host an afternoon of readings and discussion. The theme will be the interaction of nature and human culture in our modern, gloablized world."
The Loom at 100 Thames is hosting a huge all-day/night situation: Market Fair. It sounds like a ton of fun — "All day/night dance party room, Karaoke, So much music, So much art, a skate park in the courtyard, Free Beer (which I understand is Colt 45 after 11!), Cheap Food." All that stuff, plus a chance to scope out the space (so curious).
Over on Forrest Street, English Kills presents Receiver, the first installment in a 3-part performance series by Peter Dobill. While you’re in the area, check out the B-Cat & C-Town Variety Show at Petri Space featuring Ben Kissel (stand-up incredible), The Antlers (music as heard on NPR), Cherry Cherry Boom Boom Cocoon (sexxxy dancers), The Bishop (UCB’s extra-ordinary Harold Team) and dance party after with DJ Marrying Everyone.
Some Bushwick luminaries (Bonnie Baxter Band, Asa Ransom) are playing the Five Eyes Festival at Glasslands. Saturday night is USAISAMONSTER‘s LAST SHOW EVER. Kevin — consider this your official reminder. In addition to the honorees, Market Hotel has a glittering lineup planned. Go say good bye!
Sunday, if you have any energy left, there’s more music at The 36 Chambers and Market Hotel (including Woods). If you want to take it easy peasy, head to the NK Den for Film Classics night — this week is Bullitt (ahhhh Steve McQueen).
