I was surprised the brownstoner community hasn't overwhelmingly attacked the checkers opening on court st; i thought they all hated chains in favor of earthy independently owned restaurants dripping with 'authenticity.' maybe some of the sanctimony drained out with the real estate bubble. part of me is happy to see new businesses opening up on our dead stretch of broadway, the other part of me is whining that none of the newer businesses sell anything I want (except perhaps for these fries I keep hearing about).
