This week is all about cutting to the chase, making it work, burning the candle at both ends… and cliches. A full inbox of events makes me happy and we’ve got so many wonderful options this weekend!
Tonight, Morgantown is hopping. There’s more street art at the latest Ad Hoc Art opening, with work by Swoon, Gaia, and Faile, to name a few. It’s already time for another Handmade Music Night at 3rd Ward (can someone please report back — I can never make it!).
Friday, artists! Get all the facts and sign yourselves up for the biggest annual even in town: Bushwick Open Studios ’09! Arts in Bushwick is having a Meeting/Anti Meeting at English Kills to answer all your BOS questions in person.
Jonah Bokaer, famed Bushwicker and founder of Chez Bushwick, crosses the river to collaborate with Robert Wilson on a "performance-portrait" entitled KOOL Dancing In My Mind at the Guggenheim.
Other bits incliude: *Twin Stumps (I’ve heard raves from fans and although I haven’t heard them play in a while, I can attest to their talent and cuteness) play Market Hotel with Pissed Jeans and Lamps. *The Bushwick School House is throwing a "grand party" (in the gym!) featuring Zachary Cale & The House Rockers, Revival Times and The Asteroid #4. *One more not-in-Bushwick-but-by-Bushwickers: Brooklyn Bailout looks awesome. *Dance the night away in the romantic Kingdom Den to DJ No Good Nick’s Mod, Soul, Jazz, Beat, Pop.
Saturday, Joe Ahearn/SleepWhenDead present another fabulous Subway Show! This time head to the 1 train platform at the South Ferry station for the Eskalators, then stay at Van Cortland park for Graffiti Monsters and The Mighty Handful (stay tuned for more bands). The Marionettes of Satan, 500mA, Bloody for Me and GunFight! (new EP available at the show) play Market Hotel. There’s opera at the Bushwick Starr: The Red House Collective presents Le Bestiaire.
Sunday, Goodbye Blue Monday has a full line-up for you.
Monday, head to Pocket Utopia for a lovely (as always) salon discussion.

Handmade Music was way interesting. Didn’t stay for the workshop, but the presentations and live sets were awesome. Watching an artist rock out on their handmade modular synth beats a laptop performance any day of the week. The free PBR didn’t hurt either.
