Unbelievable! A weekend with nothing happening in Bushwick. I wait all week to get my culture on, and not one of our blossoming cultural institutions has anything to offer…
April Fools! It’s another packed weekend in the ‘Wick.
Thursday, get your ass on the dance floor at House of Yes’ weekly dance party, No Parking on the Dance Floor. Just make sure to keep it moving.
Friday, check out the PosterBoy AdBooster Opening Reception at the newly opened Eastern District. On the heels of his infamous campaign against the ads that proliferate in our subway tunnels, PosterBoy is launching his first solo exhibition, including a large scale installation by the artist and prints of his subterranean installations. "Out of the work comes a dialogue which is sometimes political, sometimes humorous, and always a perspective shifting moment of communication." Also on Friday in the Greater Bushwick area is the opening reception of Interface: Nature at NURTUREart. Curated by Horisaki-Christens, the show features Jillian Conrad, Nicholas des Cognets, Lauren Davies, Lisa Dillin, Taro Hattori, Katarina Jerinic, Harri Kallio, Miranda Maher, B.J. Vogt, Åsa Elzén and Markus Wetzel. Through various approaches, the artists attempt to question the idea that "humans are separate from the rest of the world due to our seemingly unique communication and reasoning abilities." Runs through May 9. It’s a packed Friday night, so after you’re done with the visual feast, lose yourself in the cosmic synth experiments and droning pop of Kurt Vile, Gary War, and US Girls at Silent Barn.
Saturday, jolt yourself out of hibernation with Hidden People’s Spring Party at Starr Space. Featuring music by Holy Hail, Mahi Mahi, Hidden People, Ribbons and Iyaxia and some crazy visual art by Paris, Outpt, & Vade that utilizes old Nintendos! Or swing over to the Silent Barn for the sonic stylings of Girl Mountain, Juarez, Clyde, and Nathan Whipple.
Sunday, if you have any room left in your weekly culture budget, check out Jonathon Roberts, Dave Scanlon, 16 Dudes, and Granfalloon, promising piano rock with disarming stories about faith, family and destruction residency, experimental jazz, free jazz, and jazz/trip-hop respectively.
