Internet-connected parents with children in public schools doesn’t seem like a big demographic in Bushwick — that’s why if you fit the bill you should be running for Community Education Council! The registration and voting are conducted online only, so the odds of you actually getting in could be higher than you expect.
CECs review the curriculum, approve school boundaries, advise the Chancellor and have meetings with the Superintendent each month to discuss the state of schools in their district. If you have a child in a Bushwick public school, this is not something to be complacent about.
“It only takes five minutes” to sign up, says Jeff S. Merritt, President of Grassroots Initiative, the nonprofit partnering with the Dept. of Education to recruit and assist CEC candidates. “If it’s important to you to improve your children’s lives and make a difference in your community, please sign up right now on our website before it’s too late.”
If you or someone you know is interested, go to PowerToTheParents.org or call 877-NYC-VOTE. The deadline is midnight tonight.
