Wow. The New York Times‘ Cara Buckley seems to have spent a lot of time interviewing people in Bushwick’s arts community and mulling over her notes only to come up with a piece (of which I heard rumors a few weeks back) that resembles — in parts down to the very quotes — a story our own Aaron Short wrote about the art market last month. It also mentions the plethora of living room galleries in the neighborhood. Aren’t newspapermen known lately for snarkily defending their relevance by claiming that blogs just repackage the content they dig up? It seems the opposite has happened here.
Or maybe we’re the newspaper now.

You are the newspaper, and you have been for awhile.

The Old Grey Lady probably never expected anyone to stumble over this obvious occurrence of bootlegging. Material doesn’t need to be duplicated word for word to qualify for the label you adeptly avoided. For shame, NYT… to think how I used to believe in you.

Now then, remember that imitation is the highest form of flattery.
The more articles the NYT writes about Bushwick, the better, as far as I’m concerned.
