The Moore Street Market, aka La Marqueta, a collection of food stands, barbers and salons, racks full of socks, and shelves of MistolĂn, was recently saved by the city, with agitation from Boss Vito Lopez, from the need to actually make money. The indoor market’s bailout may now include a pedestrian plaza on its adjacent block of Humboldt, which would, as sharp CB1 member Gerald Esposito points out, make the city “less likely to destroy” it in the future due to sunk costs. When do we start calling it the Moore Street Museum?
