An Art Roundup: Bouncing Around Bushwick
I headed out early Friday evening to check out Norte Maar and ArtCal’s "Bounce That Beat" gallery walk in the neighborhood. After a delicious spritzer at the Kingdom, the team and I headed to Norte Maar. We missed seeing the always lovely Jason Andrew, but did get to see work by Hermine Ford, Brooke Moyse and Jeri Coppola. Next up, a stop at Privateer, a fabulously-presented "living room variety" gallery in an awesome converted loft building on Jefferson, to see Ellie Murphy’s giant sculpture installation, SQUASHblossom.
We moved on to the "Gang of Four" on Flushing — first stop, Factory Fresh for their Anxiety Room show. I love the newly done backyard and "Board of Anxieties" — also the limited edition T-shirts (I made a "no new clothes" exception for this one). We knocked on the door at Pocket Utopia but sadly missed Austin Thomas. Kevin reported that Andrew Hurst’s trantula farewell ritual was quite amazing — I saw the remnants of the performance at Kevin’s "Coffee Talk" on Sunday.
On to English Kills for Andy Piedilato’s solo show. I’m impressed all over again everytime I go there. Last stop for me was Ad Hoc Art, where Luis was "moved" by Know Hope’s cardboard constructions. Overall, it was a great night — congrats to all the participating galleries and artists!
