The Myrtle-Wyckoff L/M station got slick new panels that show you where all the coming trains on the line are before you even enter the turnstiles. That’s cool from a “welcome to 1990″ technology standpoint, but the real question is: Is this a a genuine improvement or just more bread to add to the L line’s other status sign circus?

oh my, it’s a dream come true! i’ve been waiting for this forever. i can only assume the MTA began this project back in the heady days of the dotcom boom, so i don’t know how they will maintain it. but would the MTA really use this as means to suck more dough for us? i thought their style was to just threaten to cut services. speaking of which, when are we supposed to lose the Z train?

The Z train is supposed to be one of the service cuts planned, along with getting rid of the W train on Broadway and the Astoria El. I don’t know if it officially went through. Sometimes it’s scare tactics, but other times it’s serious.
The Z really is just a different signed J train that skips stations for an hour rush hours, it’s not really another line. While it would be too bad to lose it, it’s loss would effect people coming from Jamaica Ave more than people from the Broadway el.

Z is still truckin’ for now, I dunno when it would stop, if that’s still happening. but marty markowitz did hold a funeral for it already.
