NY Press‘ Jonny Leather visited our fair burg this weekend to see “gifted” band Motel Motel at sweaty venue Market Hotel. “[T]hey played with a refreshing enthusiasm, taking a break midway through set to wish guitarist Mickey Theis a happy birthday with a lit birthday cake.” Anyone else go?

yeah, they were good, at first they sounded like dob caballero but then it became more countryish which reminded me of Company, another local band.
except for the fact that it was probably colder inside the club than outside, it was a fun night with some really varied stuff going on. that place is great for shows like this that aren’t totally overcrowded (which was the case at friday’s show at 1896).

We (Ava Luna) had the pleasure of playing with Motel Motel on Saturday; the band was spirited, sincere and above all, talented. Overall the night was great; the crowd was light, most likely due to the frigid temperatures. Yva Las Vegas delighted the crowd with her Venezuelan rant-core, done in a deliciously traditional voice. pARTyhouse TV had to deal with a projector that wouldn’t focus, but that didn’t keep them from keeping their energy high. 500ma really kicked it.
As for us, we were one vocalist down (she lost her voice the day of the show), but I hope we didn’t disappoint! Always a pleasure to play in Bushwick; see you on Valentine’s Day at Goodbye Blue Monday for BAM’s Sounds like Brooklyn festival!
love,
Ava Luna
