I was able to attend Anti-Oxidant video salon at the Northeast Kingdom on Monday night, for the first time since local artist Christina Medina started hosting the night last fall. Normally during the event I’m behind the bar upstairs, so I knew that these nights had been bringing in a crowd, but I was blown away by how packed the NK Lounge was. I was also relieved that as an employee of the Kingdom I could cut corners a bit and use the employees only stairway, as it was difficult to navigate the crowded room!

I was a little late showing up, so sadly, I missed the opening video by Fritz Donnely, but I checked out his MySpace page afterwards. This month’s Anti-Oxidant had a music theme. Local musicians, Drew and the Medicinal Pen (who perfomed live after the videos!), Matthew Dunehoo (formerly of Baby Teardrops) and A/D all presented music videos, as did Ryan Power of Burlington, Vermont. There was a more abstract piece by Worm, a newcomer to Bushwick, about his love of Drum and Bass, and a gorgeous music video by Greg Eggbeen for musician Marissa Nadler.

While it is, of course, difficult to convey the feeling of these videos through photography, I’ve done my best at capturing the visual qualities. But I highly encourage everyone to check out the event for themselves. The next Anti-Oxidant will be Wednesday, February 11 — hope to see you there!
