Andrew Piedilato at English Kills
I hope that everyone is properly rested up after the holidays, because the neighborhood is back in full swing.
There is SO MUCH to do this weekend that it’s kind of blowing my mind. It’s a big weekend for art openings and such (are we in store for more media on the Bushwick art scene?) so get out early & often.
Friday, get your arting started stat. Ridgewood-based artists Zach Ziemann and Michael Yaniro (among others) show work at Live With Animals‘ Unnatural History in Williamsburg. NURTUREart presents Seen | Unseen, focusing on the issue of surveillance in our culture (the invite for which references an amazing Sam Seaborn quote — love). After all that looking & thinking, go rock out to Carcinogenic Static at Market Hotel.
Saturday is whoa. The Bushwick Branch of the Public Library hosts its second installment of fabulous Saturday readings featuring Owen Roberts, among others. Get your fancy pants on for FOUR big Bushwicky openings at English Kills (including performance by Andrew Hurst, bonfire and mulled wine — yum), Lumenhouse, Pocket Utopia and Video Gallery and even more local flavor in Wburg: Kevin Buckholz shows at Secret Project Robot with a performance by the magical Sharon Van Etten. Chez Bushwick presents CAKE, “a new weekly program of dance, performance, and related forms.” Market Hotel has another full line-up, and you know where I’ll be: Pass Kontrol and Drew and the Medicinal Pen take over the Bushwick Starr to make some rock ‘n’ roll dreams come true.
Sunday, MAKE some art. In conjunction with current show “Kayosities,” Kay Thomas will do an afternoon workshop at Pocket Utopia. Sunday evening, 3rd Ward is home to another edition of Moviehouse. This time with live bands after the films!
Monday, the lovely and talented Christina Medina returns to the Northeast Kingdom Den curating the Anti-Oxidant Video Salon.
See what I mean?? Now go see stuff and report back. Have a great time!

That Carcinogenic Static show on Friday should be sweet. I saw them at Zebulon a few weeks back, and they were excellent. For this show I hear they’re playing some Can, James Brown and Sun Ra jams. Yeah!

I’ll just take a moment to point out that the reading at the Bushwick Library is early enough to not mess with anyone’s evening plans… just sayin’.

Build It Green! Party this Saturday Night in Bushwick!
The First Annual Build it Green! Re-gifting Bash and Holiday Party!
This saturday night at our friend Jane Virga’s new bar called Tandem, which has been built with mostly surplus materials, straight from the shelves and floors of our warehouse, Build it Green! is hosting our first ever holiday and re-gifting bash. Bring one thing that you were given and don’t want to burden your own apartment, so that others may own it for their own, get that crappy crap that someone you love or someone you don’t love gave you and you didn’t throw out yet, re-wrap it, put it in your satchel and come to the party!
one person’s december dross is another person’s january jewels… one person’s personal droppings are another person’s pile
