On the cusp of our neighborhood bordering the disputed territory of Bed-Stuy and Bushwick, a friendly new watering hole has opened its doors to what were positive reviews all around. The Wick does not have a proper sign yet but is noticeable by the neon beer logos in the window.

Despite a raw mix of rain and snow falling outdoors, inside the bar was a very friendly and large turnout for the opening night. Although most of the crowd was made up of what natives would call hipsters, some long-time locals showed up to show their support and the very friendly bartenders, Chyna and Michelle, are both local girls. Bushwick’s own Brian Migliore and Sean Wilson were spinning their stylings in the back to a friendly and outgoing young group. The owner Stavros, a proud Greek-American, is the salt of the earth and will go out of his way to make you feel at home, as will his promoter Czar, a Bushwick local and extremely friendly and outgoing guy.

Although it’s too cold to sit outside now, the bar does have a backyard that will become a beer garden in the warmer months. The decor is simple and tasteful — nothing gaudy — and the bar was made by Stavros himself from bed posts and other materials. The bathrooms at this time are spotless but being a bar in New York City that remains up for grabs. Located right off the Halsey J stop, The Wick is a welcome addition to our neighborhood, so come on down for a drink, meet new friends, and get lit by the spirit of the Wick.

At least on opening night, PBRs were $2, Heinekens $4, and Jameson shots $2 each and any third drink free.

The Wick is at 1466 Broadway at Putnam Ave.
