Bushwick Is ’80s East Village’

Bushwick mural — Photo by Diego Cupolo

For many of you, them may be barfin’ words. But influential art critic Jerry Saltz — who recently took a low-key tour through the hood — says Bushwick is “the closest thing to the eighties East Village.” Interestingly, very indy (like, in someone’s apartment) gallery Norte Maar heads the list as a starting point for a Bushwick art jaunt. Also mentioned: Pocket Utopia, English Kills, and Lumenhouse.

I would add Privateer to Mr. Saltz list of Bushwick galleries.

The Jerry Saltz piece is also in this week’s printed edition. It’s a part of an indie culture guide.

Definitely add Privateer (476 Jefferson Street, Ste 211)… and the list goes on. A tip of the hat (vintage 80s) to all of us.

Where is the mural in the picture actually located?
