Bushwick Urban Archaeology: Old Tile

There is tile from several periods all over the back yard, but most are pink or yellow bathroom tile from probably the 50s-60s. The most interesting ones are the more ancient bits like the ones above. The small square tile may have originally been on my stoop. The hex tiles may have been in the main hallway. The large herringbone chunk was actually found where it had originally been, in a bathroom of the back house that stood until it burned down some time in the 60s or 70s. Other old-looking bits can be found here and there; my neighbor used some smaller hex “flowers” as insets on two tree-stump stools he made.
