Getting blurry at Starr Space’s Obama Fundraiser — photo by Anna D’Agrosa

I joined my art genius friend Kevin at Starr Space on Saturday night for their Obama Fundraiser. We got there after the scheduled 10PM YouTube video screening but in plenty of time for the raging dance party.

The place was PACKED — they must have (hopefully!) made a ton of money for Barack Obama at $10 a head at the door.

The event was hosted by Samara Davis, Peter Coffin and Jules de Balincourt with Andrew Kuo and John Santos DJ-ing (spinning some cool jams). T-shirts were for sale (Kevin’s fave was a Grateful Dead themed number) and booze was free — thanks to sponsors: Matchless Bar, Dumont, and Smith & Vine. (I must note that Starr Space always has the best sponsors for their events, e.g., Newcastle & Drambuie in the past for Cinema 16 nights).

It was a mix of Bushwick’s finest scenesters and a smattering of art stars, and it felt like the best high school dance ever — a fabulous cold-weather kickoff.

If all these attendees actually make it to the polls (registration deadline is Oct 10, folks!), Obama should be in good shape ’round our parts… Provided they actually count the votes properly (unlike in the primaries).

I danced for a bit, Kevin chatted, and we left early to sit in Maria Hernandez Park for a minute before they locked it up. Gorgeous.
