This week I’m phoning in the picks from Austin after some fried green tomatoes, a glass of local Texas white and BBQ beef brisket. I’m full and I miss Bushwick. Luckily I’ll be home in time for a serious weekend!
Friday night (early!! doors at 7, show at 8, dance all night), Pass Kontrol promises a powerhouse set with some kickass guests — Columbia (geniuses and one of my new local fave bands), Lady Magma (who always provide the crazy talent), and Pool of Frogs all the way from Chicago (who I have it on good authority are a-mazing). The gang is back at Bushwick Starr — newly renovated and in the nick of time — we’ve all missed that place over the summer! Everyone be there with your bffs. I hear there’s a Western theme. Bring it, Bushwick.
Saturday, 3rd Ward is home to “indoor-outdoor multi-media event” The Last Supper Festival. The “multi-arts symposium” will benefit the Food Bank of NY and feature “13 short films from emerging directors, 13 artworks from budding visual artists, 13 dishes from innovative food artists and live music from 7 talented bands and DJs.” A great space, plethora of art AND food AND some added do-goodery. Sounds like a day well-spent. Saturday night, Supernature 4 dance party (“heavy hitting DJ spinning an extended set in an exciting, anything goes, underground environment”) hits Asterisk* Art Project featuring DJ Bitch Ass Darius and Dre Skull DJ set.
Sunday night, chill out with some nature themed art at Lumenhouse. Organizer Eliza Jane Fernand has assembled “artwork in as many mediums as I could collect…dedicated to and inspired by volcanoes.” Sounds like a civilized end to a potentially raucous weekend.
