It’s been a long time coming, but Bushwick’s first proper wine shop has finally opened. It’s actually been open for some two weeks now, and is fully stocked with all varieties of wine from every major growing region. Vinos en Wyckoff also sells what seems like hundreds of brands of liquors. I visited with owner Tony Acosta to talk to him about the shop:

What made you open a wine shop in Bushwick?: The need. People don’t want to buy liquor through bulletproof glass. They don’t want to buy a bad selection of wine in a filthy shop.

How long have you lived in Bushwick?: Oh, just 23 years. Some people are complaining about gentrification but — we just live in a different time now.

Where are you from originally?: Dominican Republic.

How did you learn about wine?: I worked for years at my family’s East Village wine shop before deciding to open one here in Bushwick.

I went home with a couple of liquors — Basil Hayden’s bourbon and a bottle of Cointreau — and several wines, including Argentine Malbec, California Cabernet Sauvignon, and Tempranillo and Rioja from Spain. Argentina and Spain — my two favorite wine countries — are well-represented on the shelves.

Head down to Vinos for a wine and cheese tasting at the store’s Grand Opening on July 24th from 6pm on. Delivery all over Bushwick will be coming soon!
