Right on prime Knickerbocker is the apartment of husband and wife duo Robert and Mary Anne Steel. They present their art together as Roma Steel. Robert is an illustrator — whose disturbing, politically themed pieces I recognize from other forums. Mary Anne is a photographer and was displaying photos of Coney Island freak show members. We mentioned we were worried the freak show might be shut down, but she reassured us they now own their building and aren’t going anywhere.
What we saw: Macabre illustrations with political themes, photographs of Coney Island freaks.

Their website is really amazing. I recommend the photographs of DC. They are incredibly beautiful but also so important in a documentary sense. As a DC native, I feel like this is a side of the city (vacant neighborhoods, schools, houses) that many people are unaware of.
