Jessica and I had a big night of Bushwick Culture…
Started off the (gorgeous, right!?) Saturday evening at English Kills Gallery to see Judith Supine‘s solo show “Dirt Mansion.”
A friend introduced me to ‘Judith Supine’s’ work a few years back and I have loved it ever since. I’ll refer you to Jessica’s weekly picks post for more info on the artist. The gallery is a fave destination as well — they have had some fantastic shows and super fun BBQs since opening/rehabbing the space. The opening was definitely the place to be — on the way there and back we had tons of people asking how to get to Forrest Street. There were only two unsold pieces when we got there for the early shift at 6:30 — and it looks like the show sold out completely.
Later on, we made it to see a bit of Soapbox 75 at 75 Stewart Ave. We missed the DJs, but caught one presentation and a band. The talk was on solar energy/green architecture in New Orleans and the band was a performance-arty lady group who did a 6-minute session of singing/speaking/dancing over a recorded track of their own voices.
Finished the night at the Kingdom — DJ Crisis was in the lounge, which has become a not-to-miss event for the ladies of Bushwick Culture. Really can’t overstate how fun it is to dance down there. It was a summer preview night for sure — looks like ’08 is gonna be a good one, Bushwick!
