A little early this week because on of the picks is on Thursday:
Music
4/3– Pass Kontrol.
Pete’s Candy Store. 709 Lorimer St.
Band will start promptly at 9pm. Free.
Slowly but surely spring is peeking through the cracks of winter, and the dudes of local band Pass Kontrol are starting to feel beastly and voluptuous again. They want to see your naked arms and necks this Thursday. I want to hear their sweaty futuristic dance tracks that make me think of trains, showers, blacktop heat, and high noon in July.
(visit: Pass Kontrol)
Art
Through 5/3 — “Serial Meditations”.
NURTUREart. 910 Grand Street.
Thurs-Mon 12-6pm. Free.
The artists of Serial Meditations use the language of drawing and sculpture to investigate the meditative properties of repetition and seriality. As a long-time admirer minimalism and of artists that truly “recognize the strength and individuality of line” such as Sol LeWitt and Timothy Hull , I am looking forward to the serene and reflective aesthetic this exhibition promises to provide.
(visit: NURTUREart)
Dance
4/5 — Installation Two.
Bushwick Starr. 207 Starr Street
8pm. $12. (reservations)
The Progressive Arts Network premiers ‘INSTALLATION TWO’: two evenings of dance featuring emerging and established Choreographers and two Dance Films by Julie Fotheringham and Ana Isabel Keilson. The event space will allow the audience to merge with artists and encourage conversation beyond the confines of traditional venues. Hopefully that means audience members awkwardly dancing on stage under bright lights. The Bushwick Starr is a full-scale performance venue which started as a live work space, and has blossomed into a cultural hub for showcasing performing arts in Bushwick. If you live here, and haven’t been, GO! Check the Bushwick Culture Calendar for more options if dance is not your thing.
(visit: Bushwick Starr)
Dancing
4/4 — The Future of Disco 1983.
Northeast Kingdom Lounge. Wyckoff Ave at Troutman.
10pm. Free.
Have you ever just gone crazy down in that basement? Just left all your baggage and inhibitions at the hard-to-open front door and danced your pants off down there? If not, you are seriously missing out on a life-affirming set of moments, punctuated by great beer (Ipswich Ale) and saucy bartenders (you know who you are).
(visit: NEK Lounge.)

Great round-up, however I’m confused about why Pete’s Candy Store would be part of the Bushwick music line-up?
According to Todd P, THURSTON MOORE (!) will be performing at Silent Barn tonight and DAN DEACON will be performing at the RIDGEWOOD TEMPLE, any more information on these shows as they seem like serious signs that the music scene in Bushwick is waaay more exciting than any neighborhoods to the east!

Pass Kontrol is a very local band and they ROCK (usually at local venues, but we support them spreading the love). Dan Deacon show at Ridgewood Temple will definitely be a pick for the week of 4/14 (show is on 4/17). For more info on both shows, you can check the calendar, both tonights show at Silent Barn and the one on 4/17 are listed with details. If you go to the show tonight, send us pics and comments if you can: bushwickarts@gmail.com.
