Not to be the guy who bumps these comments unnecessarily, but we just moved here and the Mr. Kiwis has to be the best thing in the hood. Not much meat, but I guess thats what the Foodth Dimension is for. The produce in Mr. Kiwis has been, on average, good & cheap, and they have a great beer selection. PLUS, I've seen 2 nasty fights in FD, and none in Mr. Kiwis.

Actually, I do find the produce mostly repulsive. Occasionally I find great deals on good berries and stuff like that, and I have bought huge packs of good but overripe tomatoes for use in sauces for $1. But their grocery selection is pretty decent for what it is.

You've all got to be kidding me.

The few times I have gone into Mr. Kiwi's, it's been disgusting.

Not only is it super dirty inside, but the fruits and the veggies are NOT fresh. The strawberries were molding when I got to them.

Do you have to go early on delivery day to get any of the prized fresh produce, because I have yet to see any of the positives noted on this page.

organicdirect will deliver to me here -- I don't know their exact boundaries, but unlike FD they base their delivery areas on individual interest and they will change them right away given enough interest. In other words, if enough people from an area ask them, they will deliver to that area (that's how we got them to deliver in my previous neighborhood). They're nice, worth talking to.

(urbanorganic, for their part, delivers everywhere in the five boroughs.)

FreshDirect is better than organicdirect.com because FD actually delivers to the Bushwick area.

Great to read about this. For the stuff this place doesn't have, also consider the two competing organic delivery companies that serve Bushwick: organicdirect.com and urbanorganic.com. Both great, very different from each other. OD is like FreshDirect but much better (cheaper; more organic selection; minimal packaging; will take back your boxes and reuse them). UO is like a CSA that delivers and is open year-round.

Mr. Kiwi's is the best. I’ve been buying my fruits and veggies here for a few months and I swear by this place now. The produce is fresh and reasonably priced, selection is great, staff is super-friendly and the old Asian man has jumped on my skateboard on two separate occasions. It definitely beats the traditional grocery stores in the area.

Man, can I just repeat that I *love* this place? We just walked up there and came home with a few pounds of Yukon Golds, a bunch of celery, a bag of leeks, swiss chard, Italian parsley, chives, two bunches of watercress, a bunch of stem tomatoes and a couple of big cans of cat food for the outdoor cats. Sixteen bucks. The stem tomatoes were a punt after discovering they didn't have canned whole or diced tomatoes (we need them for dinner tonight, so I'll blanch, peel and chop the fresh ones), but seriously, that's a pretty minor complaint. It's just awesome to be able to get the stuff we need in one convenient location.

50 cents for a 4.4oz carton of blueberries. That is all I have to say. They were perfect, not a mushy one in the bunch. I got 4 of them. I also, for the first time ever, found pure lard in the refrigerator case -- not "lard and hydrogenated lard," not a lard-crisco mix, but flat out lard. Mr. Kiwi's is great!
