I agree wholeheartedly! This is my old neighborhood and I needed to get myself checked out. I assumed the worst going there but was so pleasantly surprised. The staff were all so friendly and helpful and took their time doing everything carefully. It was super clean with minimal wait time. A few yeaarts back I went to the clinic at Chelsea.. UGH! Most horrible experience of my life! Only because I waited for nearly 2 hours did I sit down. Make sure to burn the chothes you're wearing afterwards. The doc was ok I guess but when he poked his finger inside me and murmured "MMM.. I don't smell anything funny" it was all I could do to run outta there screaming!

John - I also wanted to say that the church farther north is incredible. It reminded me of Spain, or even Cuba. It was truly an architectural beauty in the middle of low income housing.

Nice one.

Quite a strange and surprising story -- most clinics, public or private, are totally gross. I only go to doctors or hospitals unless I broke something or am so sick I can't function, because I'm convinced people catch more stuff getting treated for other stuff, or even worse, just getting a check up. Blah.

The Bushwick Health Center has been a class operation for many years, and I am glad that you had such a good experience with it. It is a real hidden gem.

During my District Manager days, the Board's office was situated on the third floor of 335 Central, and I had a good opportunity to work with the Health Department's very dedicated staff.

My most vivid memory at 335 Central, however, occurred in July of 1977 when, a few days after the blackout, we had a birdseye view of what would become the All Hands Fire. Looking over what was then a huge vacant area and is now Hope Gardens I, we witnessed a true inferno unfold before us. I will never forget this.
