Today I was forwarded an entry from Daily Candy — yes, that oooh, it’s so new and hot and popular and I must have it NOOOWWW! daily alert blog. I would normally roll my eyes at such a source, but it’s about Sweet Deliverance, a service that delivers organic, farm-fresh food from Long Island to your front door. The interesting part for us is that it makes a quick pit stop in between right here in Bushwick, where chef Kelly Geary slices and dices it into something you only need a fork to enjoy. It’s pretty pricey at $250/week in addition to the “shares” you have to buy, but then, that’s why it was on Daily Candy. If you have the bucks but not the time to cook your own food, seems like a good deal if you prefer local and organic.
My forwarder says (and I agree) the website “bites”.
Hey Kelly, maybe open a little eatery for us poor, starving Bushwickers?

I hope they know what they’re doing and what it takes to run something like a food co-op, and that they have talked to professionals. I’ll try to make it.

They have met several times with the folks that run the Park Slope co-op……In haven’t been to any yet but there have been several meetings so far so It would seem that things are going well so far…they just processed there first food order recently as well

Oh! Good news. I was thinking they should talk to the PS people, they’ve been running that place for 30 years. I wish there were more info online. The myspace page is woefully bare.

I don’t know if anyone would be interested, but I have a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) share with Hearty Roots Community Farm. The pickup is near the Graham stop. They have full shares, weekly pickup for $400 (22 weeks) or half shares, every other week, for $225 (112 weeks). It’s my first year with them, so I can’t vouch for them yet, but I have high hopes. The new season starts June 2nd. I previously had a share in Washington Heights and it was amazing to have farm fresh vegetables every week.
Here is their website if anyone is interested: http://www.heartyroots.com/williamsburg.html

Becky – thanks for the info. My husband and I have been talking about CSAs but haven’t yet taken the leap. We grow a lot of our own stuff but it would be nice to supplement it with CSA produce. Please keep us posted, though – maybe you could start a thread on the forum?

Cory from the coop says:
“We are just in the very first stages of setting up this coop. We’ll be talking about the direction that we want to take and what our next steps are. Please, come and check it out.
Also, we’ll be having a BBQ here the same day, so feel free to bring some food or drink.”

Does anyone know of anything like this locally, community gardens in Bushwick and whatnot?
