#1 — 1300-1650 — 1 and 2 bedroom: Not cheap, but inside is really well done. Sweet kitchen and bath, big windows, a block and change from the Halsey J train. PETS OK Eldert and Bushwick 1 bedroom | 2 bedroom
#2 — 1365 — 1 bedroom: Private roof deck and lots of really nice exposed brick. Cheese kitchen but bathroom looks cool. Windows look huge. CATS OK Lawton and Broadway
#3 — 1350 — 2 bedrooms: Very cool details including a fireplace, looks pretty large, fresh paint/new floors. The kitchen is sort of awkward, but it’s new. Individual boiler? Maybe that means instant electric water heater. Only downside is first, last and security, but then, sort of filters out the rabble. At least a 5-minute walk from the closest subway. PETS OK Gates and Wilson
#4 — 2200 — 4 bedroom: McKibbin Lofts, by the Montrose stop, close to food and shopping amenities, not sure how often these come up but this isn’t slumming it like other East Williamsburg and Bushwick lofts, these are real apartments. Great views of Manhattan. Grab one and fill it with roommates. PETS OK McKibbin and Bushwick
#5 — 1400 — 2 bedroom: Cool stone facade building and a private yard, there’s nothing else to say. Except maybe “cheesy kitchen.” Again, who cares. PETS OK Putnam and Wilson
Honorable and hilarious mention: SOBRO loft. LOL!

#1 is on my block, i’ve been watching these rentals since before we bought the house. not sure how many apartments are inthe building but it looks pretty nice from the street. they must be doing better at renting out the apartments, a few months ago they were offering free rent for the first month or so.

It seems like the farther they are from a train or the city, the nicer they’re renovated. Gotta get em in somehow.

jesus.. that’s what things are going for out by Halsey Street on the J now? I was out there a few years ago and it was “tanjee city.” I was pointed out and cat-called for being a whiteboy. even if it’s changing, that’s too far out for me.
Jimmy Legs May 18th, 2007 at 10:49 am
we’ve been there 6 months, out of 4 of us, i’m the only one who’s garned any comment. and that was probably because i got off at the Chauncey stop. this guy saw me coming, waited until i passed and said something like ‘yeh … you BETTER keep walking … I DON’T LIKE WHITE PEOPLE. all y’all takin’ over!’ i felt kinda bad for the guy actually. he’s got a point.
Jeremy May 18th, 2007 at 11:15 am
That’s right, nobody was here before him and nobody should come after. And god forbid anyone should suffer the presence of white people. Maybe your pale skin blinds him? Poor guy.

Jeremy you got a bit of the old Archie Bunker in ya! LOL
Jeremy May 19th, 2007 at 8:53 am
heyyyy — they’re the ones complaining about people who look different moving in the “their” neighborhood! haha
I think that show was set in Ridgewood, btw

Archie Bunker was filmed in flushing queens

I have to beg to differ that McKibbin isn’t slumming it. There are lofts at Morgan that are nice. I wouldn’t categorize McKibbin as nice. They are fine if you’re a band that just moved here from Texas and need a big cheap place you can fit six people into.
And, last I heard, McKibbin was having bedbug problems, not a big surprise there.
Jeremy May 22nd, 2007 at 12:35 pm
I still don’t know exactly what a bed bug is. :-D

ooh, i gotta send you a pic of this, but that apartment building on Eldert has some handwritten signs up right now that say “don’t rent here!” and “Landlord: NO gas, NO hot water, NO Laundry, RODENTs” or something like that. i feel bad for those tenants!
Jeremy May 23rd, 2007 at 8:13 am
Wow, yeah let me know. God I hate scumbag landlords.

Jimmy:
Yes, please send a picture, because I thought this building on Eldert was a big push towards gentrifying the area. Maybe it’s unhappy tenants, and the landlord is getting a bad rap. The apts. look beautiful, although the lobby of the building still looks plain. Lots of young, hip people living there. I’m happy for the area.
